Fear

I started this blog to focus on my interest in photography and to participate in some great online challenges that I'd discovered. But now that I've started it, I find that I'm hesitating joining one. I'm feeling really intimidated. I don't have any formal training or fancy equipment; just a desire to stretch myself. Then I read an interview on Studio Friday with author Lee Silber. He says to "accept that everyone feels fear" and to "recognize that most fear for newer artists comes from fear of being judged." Wow. Exactly! Now, what to do about it? When I was a teenage geek, I read Dune by Frank Herbert. The litany against fear spoken by one of the characters has always stuck with me. "Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration." Deep stuff. Well, I don't want to be ruled by my fear. This blog is about opening and expanding my mind. So I will face my fear: pick a challenge and jump in!
