Don't Fear Taking Bad Photographs

I stumbled across this article today--Learning to See by Michael Reichmann on his website Luminous Landscape--and was struck by it. When I first started on my photographic journey not long ago, I had a lot of fear. Still do, I admit. Fear of taking bad photos, fear of posting bad photos publicly, fear of being "out there" creatively. But nevertheless, I'm still here, still trying, still learning. Like the writer of the question that begins Michael's article, I find as I read more and more about photography that I'm really searching for the key to beautiful photographs. The key to my own brand of beautiful photographs. I see photographers that I admire and recognize that they have a unique way of seeing their subjects. I long to find my own unique vision. However, unlike the writer, I am not a technical master. Learning the technology is part of my journey. On some level, I know the more I shoot, the more I learn. Occasionally fear holds me back. I hope to take Michael's advice to heart and no longer fear taking bad photographs. To recognize them as part of my journey. Speaking of which, I have Bryan Peterson's Understanding Exposure (thanks to J on my birthday!) on my nightstand to finish. Better get to it!
